On Friday May 22nd Ireland voted in two referendums. It approved changing the Constitution to extend civil marriage rights to same-sex couples but rejected.

But because of a row, the Assembly hasn't functioned for the last 15 months. This gives the UK government the ability to introduce laws into Northern Ireland.
